Beginning I Swimmer

This class is designed for the adult with little or no swimming skills. A goal for this class is to be able to swim a length (25 yards) and feel comfortable in deep water. Safety skills and the development of basic strokes for distance swimming are stressed. This class is designed so that individuals can enjoy the water while becoming prepared for advanced activities around the water.

Beginning II Swimmer

This class is designed for the weak but well-adjusted swimmer. Participants should be able to swim a length of the pool using any style and tread or float in the deep end for a minute. The general goals include advanced proficiency in the basic strokes, greater understanding of safety, and ability to use water as a medium for recreation and fitness.

Intermediate Swimmer

Adults having a working knowledge in a majority of the five basic strokes (crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke) will use this class to refine existing strokes, learn more advanced strokes and be introduced to additional aquatic skills. Swim conditioning principles can also be emphasized during this course. These workouts will be to improve aerobic and anaerobic conditioning. Participants will gain basic knowledge in exercise physiology and training techniques to continue a fitness program on their own. It is the next step after the Beginning II class and can also be a good lead-up class to the Master's Swim Team. Efficiency and endurance will be stressed.
