Part-Time EmploymentIce ArenaThe Ice Arena staff consists of 3 professional staff members and over 100 student employees. Student positions include: Facility AssistantsIncludes skate checkers, skate monitors, café workers, cashiers and hockey staff. These positions are vital to the operation of the Ice Arena and are on the front lines interacting with patrons. No experience is necessary, only a customer service-oriented and friendly attitude. The ability to skate is not a requirement for most positions. Customer Service AssistantsAll Facility Assistants are eligible for promotion to Customer Service Assistant. The position directs and supervises the activities of the Ice Arena in order to provide service and information to the students, faculty/staff and the community. No minimum length of employment, but general knowledge of Ice Arena operations is preferred. Zamboni DriversOne of the most fascinating positions at the Ice Arena, the Zamboni Driver monitors and resurfaces the ice in order to maintain safe conditions for patrons. Performs basic maintenance on the Zamboni and reports any mechanical problems to Ice Arena management. Employees who have proven themselves responsible, hardworking and able to take the initiative on projects are ideal for the Zamboni Driver. All training is provided. Event ManagersEvent Managers act in place/assist professional staff members during public sessions and hockey games. Direct and supervise other staff and the activities of the Ice Arena. Veteran employees who have demonstrated leadership, initiative, responsibility and communication skills are considered for promotion to this position. Skating InstructorsTeach ice skating and hockey skills to Kinesiology and Learn-to-Skate/Learn-to-Play Hockey participants. Show enthusiasm, patience, and encouragement at all times. Instructors also have the opportunity for promotion to Head Instructor and Learn-to-Skate Coordinator. Previous teaching experience is not required, but it is preferred that applicants have passed ISI Freestyle 4 (for figure skating instructors) or have coached at any hockey level or played hockey competitively into the high school/midget level (for hockey instructors). Those interested in instructing should complete the online instructor application in addition to the general application. Hockey OfficialsHockey Officials are always needed for the Senior Rec Hockey League in the fall and spring semesters and UI Open League in the spring semester. Officials enforce the rules and regulations of hockey games in order to ensure safety for all patrons, as well as promoting goodwill. Above average skating ability is required and prior officiating experience and certification are preferred. Other Positions
