Campus Recreation |
History of the RenovationMarch 1999: Research began when Campus Recreation initiated the "Quality Assessment of Programs and Services to Best Serve Students and the Campus" study. May 2000: A feasibility study was conducted to determine students' motivation to use recreational facilities and what their needs were. Campus Rec's Advisory Committee formed a sub-committee to visit several university facilities to benchmark (Miami of Ohio, University of Maryland). Staff held the first of several open meetings to get student input on renovation and expansion possibilities. November 2000: Off-campus trips were continued (Northern Iowa, University of Texas, Texas A&M), while more open meetings were conducted here. Information from these open meetings helped to create a survey to identify student usage patterns and provide feedback on what kind of fee increase students would support. Focus groups were formed and initial contact with ISG (Illinois Student Government) was made. February 2001: An on-line survey for students was introduced, one-on-one interviews were conducted on campus, and meetings with focus groups continued on-and off-campus. June 2001: Students were recruited to form a student-lead referendum committee. September 2001: - "Town Hall" meetings were offered to solicit more student input. August-September 2001: The Student Referendum Committee developed the "Bigger, Better" campaign to bring to the campus. November 2001: The referendum was confirmed by an overwhelming margin.
