Kinesiology 100 I , OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

OBJECTIVES/GOALS:
1. The Outdoor Adventure course is designed to introduce students to a number of outdoor recreation activities considered to be healthful lifetime pursuits.
2. Through this active participation class the student will learn the basic techniques, skills, and/or methods needed for continued life-long participation in the activities covered in this course. Information on equipment, gear, and clothing will included.
3. The outdoor recreation activities which may be incorporated into this course include the following : backpacking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, bicycling,
in-line skating, horseback riding, scuba diving, sea kayaking, climbing, snorkeling, downhill skiing, sailing, minimum impact camping, outdoor education or trip planning.
4. The specific objectives of the course are to teach:
a. safety as it relates to each activity
b. specific basic skills and techniques required to do each activity
c. information about the gear and equipment required for each activity
d. information about appropriate clothing needed for each activity

REQUIRED:
Selected readings/handouts/websites assigned by the instructor.
Two required half day field trips, scheduled on Friday afternoons.
Active Participation in all class activities.
Students are responsible for all materials presented in class, including
announcements about changes in course procedures, times and dates.
Activity fee : $100.00 is for equipment, facilities, and supplies used throughout
the 8 weeks of the course. charged to student account or paid by check, this fee not refundable after 2 weeks from start of class.

EVALUATION:
Course grades will be assigned as follows:

Attendance 40 pts 5pts/class
Skills (active participation) 60 pts 6pts/activity
Field Trips (active participation) 30 pts 2 trips x 15pts
Final Exam 70 pts --

A+ 97-100%; A 93-96%; A- 90-92%
B+ 87-89%; B 83-86%; B- 80-82%
C+ 77-79%; C 73-76%; C- 70-72%
D+ 67-69%; D 63- 66%; D- 60-62%
F below 59%
Academic dishonesty will result in a course grade of F
* Tardiness - 10minutes late to class will result in loss of points.
