Cross-country Skis: Sizing equipment for classic skiing

• start out by trying on boots ... the NNN boot and binding system. try on boots while wearing the socks that you will being xc skiing in. you want to have a good fit where the boots are snug but not to tight (this may cut off circulation which may make your feet colder).

• next select your skis … measure the ski length from the floor to your wrist as you stand with your arm extended straight up in the air. once you determine the correct ski length then select a pair of skis which have the correct binding for the boots which you have. place a boot in the binding to make sure that
the boots fit the bindings and to see how they work.

• poles are measured from the floor to the armpit of the user as you stand erect with your arm held straight out from your side. check the poles for missing parts (i.e. straps, basket, bottom metal tip), and/or for cracks in the shaft or other damage.

• warm up … stretch and warm up your arms and legs.

classic skiing is cross-country skiing doing the diagonal stride technique.
