Jayne Deluce

Position: Associate Director

Education: BS, MS Leisure Studies, UIUC

What made you decide to earn a Masters in Marketing of Leisure Services?
I was very interested in the communications area as an undergrad through student organizations, class projects and working at IMPE. The interest continued during my internship with a Navy recreation department in Dunoon, Scotland that developed into a Campus Rec grad assistantship with special events/promotions.

What was your first recreational position? Your first professional position?
My first recreational experience was tennis courts attendant at Centennial Park Tennis Courts. My first professional recreation position was Assistant to the Director for Broward County (Florida) Parks and Recreation.

What are your current job responsibilities?
As Associate Director of Marketing, I manage the areas of design, web/multimedia, member services, sponsorships, media relations, community outreach and market research.

What is the best part about working for Campus Rec?
A definite plus of working for Campus Rec is the environment . . . the people, great facility, and an environment where creativity and initiative is encouraged!

What is the most challenging aspect of working for Campus Rec?
Trying to accomplish everything in a defined period of time with so much creativity and vision flowing through the marketing department. We continue to prioritize, but sometimes there isn't enough time to implement all the great ideas.

What are you most proud of accomplishing professionally?
Professionally, I am most proud of working for the Atlanta Olympic Games. I managed the aquatic competitions, including swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo.

What are your future professional goals?
I am excited to watch this position continue to evolve as we renovate both IMPE and CRCE. There are so many opportunities to explore that will keep my position challenging and fun for years to come.

What is the most memorable moment you've had while working at Campus Rec?
Realizing that I could balance a great job while being a mom . . . I feel lucky.

What is your personal fitness goal?
Eat healthy, work out in moderation, and do exercises/sports that I enjoy. It is so much easier to continue working out if you enjoy that time.

Do you have a favorite quote you would like to include?
"PRIORITIES...A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove . . . But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."
