What was your first recreational position? Your first professional position?
My first recreation position was as an intramural official in college. My current position is my first professional position. Before I started working at Campus Rec, I worked in public relations for two health care organizations.
What are your current job responsibilities?
I am responsible for the Member Services operation and oversee facility management staff. I currently supervise over 120 great student employees.
What is the best part about working for Campus Rec?
I really enjoy working with the students and getting to know them. I also like helping members and students get the most out of Campus Rec and helping them understand something they didn't know before. Plus, Campus Rec is naturally a fun place to work.
What is the most challenging aspect of working for Campus Rec?
Explaining our policies and procedures to patrons and even to staff. They can be confusing at times.
What are the challenges of working closely with student staff?
The students are the heart of Campus Rec. They make this place run and carry tremendous responsibilities. It is important to remember that this is a part-time job for them and that school comes first. They face many pressures as a college student and working for us shouldn't be an additional one.
What is your most memorable moment while working at Campus Rec?
Last year, I worked with a group of students to educate the campus about a referendum to fund the expansion of Campus Rec facilities. It was wonderful to work with the group and to be with them when it was announced that the referendum had passed.
What are you most proud of accomplishing professionally?
In this job, I am most proud of the work done on the referendum campaign. We really worked hard to tell any student who would listen about the issues and why it was important to vote on the matter.
What are your future professional goals?
I would like to continue in higher education in recreation or within student affairs.
What is your personal fitness goal?
I just try to stay active. For me, I can't always put in the recommended time on cardio or strength training, but I try to lead an active lifestyle.
