Staff Interviews
ONE-on-ONE with
Terri Fisher
Position: Customer Service Assistant, Member Services
Hometown: St. Joseph, IL
What was your first recreation position?
Working in the locker room at IMPE.
What are your current responsibilities?
I get to work at 6am and get things ready for opening, rent equipment, check out equipment, sell and stock items in the pro shop, sell memberships, enter member information in our member data base, get frustrated with the computer, vacate lockers, relock lockers, take pictures for the new members ID, fill in for our administrative secretaries, and lots of other little things that come up.
What's the best part about working at Campus Rec?
Is there anything better? I truly enjoy being here year after year and seeing the same people, getting to know them. I meet some really fascinating people. If you take the time to stop and talk to them you can find out some very interesting things that they have done or are now doing. I've also gotten to know some of the student employees and have made some good friendships. Some students come back after 10-15 years and I still remember their names–they're amazed. It never seems like they have been gone that long.
What is the most challenging part?
My new role at IMPE, moving to Member Services from the locker room, has been an enormous challenge for me. But as IMPE grows, so do I.
Any challenges working with student staff?
The first challenge is remembering their names. We have such a big turnover each semester, I get their name right and they leave. The students are fun to be around; they're teaching me more than they know. I always have problems with the computer, it's a good thing they are here for me.
What is your most memorable moment here?
I can't think of one moment, many funny things come to mind but you will have to come chat with me sometime to hear those things.
What are you most proud of accomplishing professionally?
Not speaking professionally, I am most proud of raising two daughters, getting them through college, married, and now watching them raise their own daughters. Campus Rec helped fund that.
Any future goals?
Retiring :o)
